Library and Information Science is a discipline developing theories and techniques for managing information organization and resources. In today’s knowledge-based society, the importance of production, selection, organization, accumulation, retrieval, preservation and providing services of knowledge and information cannot be overemphasized. The Department of Library, Archive, and Information Studies (DLAIS) at Pusan National University (PNU) is renowned for its research, education/training programs and social contribution for providing relevant theories and practical skills for the libraries, archives and information centers. Students are educated to become creative leaders in the information environment, whether it is community, domestic or global. The curriculum of DLAIS reflects the excellent tradition. Areas of emphasis include seven tracks which will allow students to grow as librarians, information managers and other experts in the information professions: 1) History of Information Resources and Management of Korean Classical Material, 2) Development and Management of Information Resources, 3) Organization of Information Resources, 4) Information System and Management of Digital Library, 5) Information Behavior and Information Services, 6) Management and Administration of Knowledge and Information Organization, and 7) Records and Archives Management.
